The south Central Railway was formed on 2-10-1966, when Hubli, Vijayawada division of southern Railway along with Secundrabad division of central railway was carved into a new Zone. The Guntakal division of southern railway was merged by the south central railway in 2-10-1977, the Secundrabad division was spitted into two divisions that are – Secundrabad and Hyderabad on 17-2-1978. The zones and the divisions that are affected by the two divisions are been operated by shifting to the Hubli division which is established as new South western Railway.
There are approximately six divisions available for the South central railway that are- Secundrabad, Hyderabad, Guntakal, Vijayawada, Nanded and Guntur. The actual number of staff of strength available in this Railway is 83,725 and the total numbers of electrifying lines are 5435.
The SCR has attained sufficient transportation output with adequate infrastructure development and the technologies are upgraded to serve regions in its jurisdiction. They work as a service oriented organization and focus upon modern passenger amenities, safe operation of trains, punctuality, courteous services and cleanliness is the major parts that they go through regularly. There are total of 8037 vacancies available in South Central railways for various posts that the interested candidate can participate in. They are involve in intra-active voice response system, for reservation and train enquiry, National train enquiry system for real time information on movements on train, Passenger operated enquiry terminals with information availability on accommodation and confirmation and close circuit television for the real time reservation that are made available on all the important stations.
The recruitment in SCR are available for mainly four group levels that are namely Group A and B that are considered under Gazetted officers and Group C and D, which are considered under non-gazetted ranks.
Recruitment for Group A rank is done through the UPSC written exam along with GD and interview rounds. The Combined engineering service Examination and civil service engineering are included for the Traffic, account, personnel and protection based services.
The Group B rank candidates are the promoted of Group C. The Group C rank applicants are recruited through the Railway recruitment board, which are 19 in number and overall controller of railway recruitment Control Board of the Ministry of railways. The SCR divide candidates in technical and non-technical group and accordingly perform the recruitment process. The non- tech candidates are made to participate in written exam followed by the interview based upon the vacancies. After which the candidates have to clear the medical exam along fulfilment of age limit, educational qualification etc.
Group D rank candidates’ recruitment is based on divisional basis which is carried out by the Headquarters of Zonal Railway. There are various numbers of vacancies made available every year for the fresh and experienced persons, so that SCR can handle more operations simultaneously within the organization.
